About the CME Course
The purpose of this course is to assist health professionals to adapt tobacco dependence treatment services for persons with mental illness and substance use disorders. This course has been developed by national experts and is based on current research and clinical practice. The audience for this course includes physicians, other health care providers, mental health and substance use treatment professionals, tobacco dependence treatment specialists, tobacco quitlines and health program administrators seeking to adapt services.
The course has two modules, containing the key points from all modules, and takes a total of about 1 hour to complete:
- Problem, Barriers, Challenges and Evidence of Success
- Clinical Solutions, Clinical Systems and policies Needed to Support Treatment
The two supplemental modules have expanded information on selected topics of interest:
- Treating Persons with Mental Illness/Substance Use Disorder on Quitlines
- Addressing Smoking Policy Changes for Mental Illness/Substance Use Disorders
CME credit, offered through Oregon Health & Science University, is available to physicians following completion of Modules 1 and 2 and answering 80% of the test questions correctly. The supplemental modules are not eligible for credit.
Other health professionals can receive a Certificate of Completion for completing Modules 1 and 2 that can be applied to continuing education requirements in your field.
Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
OHSU School of Medicine, Division of CME, designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
